Single Coil pickups don't totally work for me in pedal steels because a) in noisy rooms the buzz/hum is really distracting, especially for volume swells and b) I like higher output pickups on steel. ”When asked, Nick Fryer's name comes up anytime someone inquires about PU rewinds or repair, especially people that are dealing with Fender trapezoid and Ric horseshoe magnets. Nick offers a re gaussing service which can be essential to correctly restoring these units. Over the years Nick has wound me custom (blade and pole mag) Strat PU's to my own coil and mag specs. He has also made me new 3d printed (idustructable) bobbins for a pair of Fender 8 string trapezoid PU's. Nick, winds a tighter more uniform coil than the original and I believe that shows up as better string separation. Last, but not least he made me a bridge position counterpart for a SD/Seth Lover 55 PAF reissue that is its perfect match. That inspired me to have Nick make a pair of PAF's based on the Bigsby 6 string magnet and coil specs! These are my favorites. I also think it's worth mentioning that Nick has a pretty big advantage over other techs ! He's also a ''world class'' guitar player ! He has a foot in both worlds.
