Meet Nick Fryer

Meet Nick - Pic1

Nick Fryer has been playing and tinkering with instruments and electronics since he was a kid. In addition to being a life-long musician, both performing and writing music, Nick’s interests and skills have evolved over time into the areas of guitar repair, amp repair, amp building, pedal building and eventually guitar pickups. Along the way, Nick fell in love with the Steel Guitar. He got interested and hooked on pickups as a result of his obsession with the steel guitar, and began making pickups for his own steel guitars and standard guitars.

Requests started coming in from his musician friends to create custom pickups for their guitars, and the feedback he got was excellent. Word spread quickly that Nick had a talent for turning wire and magnets into sound, and slowly his business of building and repairing pickups was born. Nick’s pickups can now be found in the guitars of touring musicians on major stages and festivals across the country and internationally.

He is now also doing OEM manufacturing for several major Steel Guitar builders in Nashville, TN. Nick is able to recreate and repair vintage pickups from the past that are no longer being made, as well as faithfully replicate the classic pickup designs that have stood the test of time. Being that Nick is a musician and active as a performer playing guitar, bass and steel guitar, he knows how all these pickups should sound and is in tune with the needs of musicians whether they are hobby players or working professionals.

Fryer Guitar Pickups are all made one at a time, using a vintage Coweco coil winder from the 60s, with loving care in Cincinnati, Ohio.
